The New York State Police are now accepting applications for the Trooper Entrance Examination, with testing starting on August 15. “Public safety is my top priority,” Governor Hochul stated, encouraging those seeking a rewarding career to apply. The initiative aims to bolster the force and diversify its ranks, with a commitment to the 30×30 pledge to increase female representation in police recruit classes to 30% by 2030.
Superintendent Steven G. James highlighted the unique opportunities and community impact a career as a State Trooper offers. Since 2021, the force has seen a significant increase in diversity, including a 45.8% rise in Black troopers and a 54.6% increase in Hispanic troopers.
Candidates can apply and schedule exams at joinstatepolice.ny.gov. Applicants must be U.S. citizens aged 20-34, with education requirements varying based on military service. The starting salary for Academy appointees is $59,612, rising to $98,300 after one year, with full health benefits and a retirement plan.
