In Lockport, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney joined volunteer firefighters to oppose new OSHA regulations that could shutter fire departments statewide. The proposal introduces 22 rules, including costly facility upgrades and training requirements.
Tenney sent a letter to Assistant Secretary of Labor Douglas Parker urging a reconsideration, citing the financial strain on volunteer departments. “NY-24 relies on volunteers for safety. These regulations risk closures, harming rural emergency services,” Tenney stated.
Niagara County Fire Coordinator Jonathan Schultz warned the rules could cripple departments. Legislator Tony Nemi echoed concerns, emphasizing the need for local input on safety measures.
