Over a million low-income families in New York will receive up to $330 per child through the Empire State Child Credit, Governor Kathy Hochul announced Tuesday. This one-time supplemental payment will be automatically distributed to eligible families, adding to the 2023 tax credit they have already received.
Families who received at least $100 from the Empire State Child Credit on their 2023 tax return will start receiving checks by the first week of August. “One million New York families with children will be receiving a check in the mail by the end of August,” Hochul said.
The initiative allocates $350 million in direct payments to low-income households, with amounts ranging from 25% to 100% of the 2023 child tax credit. Changes in eligibility now include children of all ages, covering an additional 600,000 kids annually.
