Sales of JD Vance’s memoir “Hillbilly Elegy” have skyrocketed following his selection as former President Donald Trump’s running mate. HarperCollins announced Thursday that over 650,000 copies have sold since Trump’s announcement on July 15, prompting a massive reprint to meet demand.
“We are printing hundreds of thousands of copies to fill the demand at our retail partners,” a HarperCollins spokesperson told The Associated Press. The book has now sold more than 3 million copies.
First published in 2016, “Hillbilly Elegy” explores Vance’s upbringing in Ohio and his family’s Kentucky roots. The memoir, which was adapted into a 2020 film by Ron Howard, gained renewed interest as readers seek to understand Vance’s appeal in the current political landscape.
