Palmyra man arrested after threatening police officer with baseball bat responding to 911 call

Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Matthew S. Helker, 40, on Friday following a warrant issued for an incident earlier this month. Helker faces charges of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree and Menacing a Police Officer in the Second Degree.

The charges stem from a July 9 incident where Helker allegedly menaced a Palmyra Police Officer with a baseball bat and ordered him off his property during a response to a 911 hang-up call. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by Palmyra Police, executed the arrest.

Helker was transported to the Wayne County Jail and is awaiting arraignment at CAP court.
