Today on episode #508 of Inside the FLX Josh Durso is joined by Mayor Jimmy Giannettino hours before the City of Auburn and Town of Owasco held a joint press conference after the state Department of Health decided it would not move forward with much needed protections to Owasco Lake. The rules, which Mayor Giannettino says are decades outdated, were aimed at protecting drinking water quality and ensuring tourism could continue in the region. He also talked about the recent announcement by Bimbo Bakeries to shut down its Auburn facility, leaving nearly 50 workers out of a job. The Mayor says company officials gave no inclination that closure was possible and said Bimbo Bakeries’ financial report released the day before closure was announced showed that it was exceeding financial expectations. Giannettino also gave an update on road work around the city, as well as an illegal cannabis operation that was shut down after a concerned parent tipped him off.
