A new law could ban boats from anchoring within 500 feet of Crescent Beach on Keuka Lake, causing tension between residents and boaters. Crescent Beach, a popular spot for weekend boaters, may see changes if the Vessel Anchoring and Rafting Law is passed.
A long-time resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said boat groups of up to 30 often gather near the shore, playing loud music that disrupts the peace. The proposed law aims to keep boats farther from the shore, with exceptions for emergencies and fishing.
Boaters argue the lake is for everyone. “We like the shallow end for anchoring and swimming,” said one boater. The Jerusalem Town Board will vote on the proposal on August 16.
