Tompkins County officials are seeking developers to design and build a new 100-bed emergency shelter in Ithaca. The project, estimated at $8.2 million, aims to provide a centralized hub for homeless individuals to access social services.

The county will contribute $2 million from its general fund and work with the selected developer to secure state funding. The 20,000-square-foot facility will house approximately 100 adults, with potential for future expansion to include transitional or supportive housing.

Applications from interested developers are due by the end of the month, with the project expected to start in January 2025 and complete by December 2028.
