A vehicle fire broke out at Serenity Manor Apartments on July 9 around 2:30 p.m., prompting a swift response from local emergency teams.

Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputies and White Springs Fire Department arrived to find a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a smoldering engine bay. The fire was traced to a fuel leak near the engine’s throttle body, according to Fire Chief Jeff McGuigan.

The vehicle’s owner, Edna C. Melendez, 40, had a friend inspecting the car before it caught fire. When they started the vehicle, the engine bay ignited. No foul play is suspected.
