The New York Mets added much-needed bullpen help on Tuesday, acquiring right-handed reliever Phil Maton from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for cash considerations or a player to be named later.

Maton, 31, struggled with the Rays this season, posting a 4.58 ERA over 35.1 innings, but was really good for the Houston Astros in 2022 and 2023.

Righty Joe Lucchesi was designated for assignment to make room on the roster for Maton, who is expected to arrive with the team on Wednesday.

The Mets bullpen has pitched to a 4.13 ERA this season, which ranks 16th in Major League Baseball.
