On Tuesday around 8:45 a.m., Ithaca Police, Firefighters, and Bangs Ambulance responded to a suicidal person clinging to the suspension bridge near Giles Street.

Officers quickly built rapport with the individual, who was hanging on the other side of the safety fencing. As the person moved to jump, Officers and Firefighters grabbed them through the fence. The Fire Department then cut through the mesh and attached a harness to safely pull the person to safety.

The individual was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. The collaboration of emergency teams and a compassionate 911 caller saved a life. If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text the Suicide Hotline at 988.
