Auburn school board elects new president, welcomes members

The Auburn Enlarged City School District Board of Education started the new school year by electing Dr. Eliezer “Eli” Hernández as its new president.

Hernández, who has served on the board since 2011 and was previously vice president, was elected in a 5-4 vote, replacing Ian Phillips, according to The Citizen.

The board also welcomed new members Melissa Deyneka and Noel Romeo, along with reelected member Matteo Bartolotta. Danielle Wood continues as vice president.

Phillips stepped down to run for state Assembly, and long-serving member Salvatore “Sam” Giangreco also left the board.
