Odessa mayor addresses water project and rumors

  • Staff Report

Mayor Gerry Messmer provided an update on the ongoing water project and addressed circulating rumors in his latest column in the Odessa File.

Phase 1 of the project involves replacing over 18,000 feet of water lines. If your line wasn’t replaced, it’s because engineers found it to be in good condition. Phase 2, starting before winter, includes a new water treatment plant, a revamped water tower, and a new DPW garage. The current DPW building is inadequate, with no heat or insulation.

Messmer clarified that the village’s water is clear and passes all health tests. The residue is due to old pipes reacting with treatment chemicals. He assured residents that property restoration will occur at the end of the project and that the DOT Sidewalk Project begins July 5. Messmer also confirmed he won’t run for mayor again, urging interested residents to consider running for the position.
