The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has recognized Canandaigua for its efforts in combating climate change through the Climate Smart Communities program.

Canandaigua achieved the Silver level, joining just 13 other communities in the state. This certification helps the city secure grants for climate resiliency projects. Canandaigua’s initiatives include LED lighting, a composting program, and adding renewable energy options. They also have zero-emission vehicles and EV chargers.

The program, driven by local volunteers and residents, aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build climate resilience. For more information, visit the Climate Smart Communities program website.
