Ontario County committee gives Geneva City Council update on housing shortage

Ontario County officials highlighted significant housing challenges in Geneva during a recent City Council meeting, presenting findings from a new housing study.

The study revealed that only 48% of homes in Geneva are owner-occupied, compared to 73% countywide. Home prices have surged by 38% from 2017 to 2022, with the median price now at $235,000. This rise in prices is making it difficult for first-time buyers to enter the market.

Officials stressed the need for more affordable housing to address these issues, including building smaller starter homes and redeveloping older buildings.
