Woman killed by microburst at Upstate NY campground over the weekend

A severe storm hit Russell Brook Campsites in Delaware County, New York, on Sunday, killing one woman.

The National Weather Service confirmed the storm was a microburst, not a tornado, with winds up to 90 mph. The storm struck around 10:35 a.m., damaging many RVs, tents, and cars. A large tree fell on the woman’s campsite, causing her death. Another person was injured.

The storm also caused significant damage near Roscoe in Sullivan County. First responders reported a mass casualty event with multiple people trapped in cabins. Russell Brook campground is a popular spot in the western Catskills, near the Beaverkill River.
