Sabres announce several free agent signings

Free agency officially began in the NHL at noon Monday, and the Buffalo Sabres agreed to deals with several players. 

The club signed forwards Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Sam Lafferty, Jason Zucker, and defenseman Dennis Gilbert.

Buffalo also brought back a familiar face, re-signing defenseman Jacob Bryson. 

Full contract terms are below: 

Aube-Kubel: 1 year, $1.5M 

Lafferty: 2 years, $4M 

Zucker: 1 year, $5M

Gilbert: 1 year, $825K 

Bryson: 1 year, $900K 

Aube-Kubel, 28, had 16 points (6+10) in 60 games last season. His 159 hits ranked fifth on the Capitals, while his average of 13.02 hits per 60 minutes led the team. The Slave Lake, Alberta native has 78 points (31+47) and 632 hits in 282 regular-season games.

Lafferty, 29, has recorded 83 points (36+47) in 289 games over five seasons with Pittsburgh, Chicago, Toronto, and Vancouver. The centerman tallied 13 goals and 11 assists in 79 contests with Vancouver last season while posting a plus-4 rating. His 192 hits in 2023-24 ranked third on the team.

Zucker, 32, had 32 points (14+18) in 69 games last season for Arizona and Nashville. He has scored 20 or more goals in a season six times, including a career-high 33 goals in 2017-18 and a 27-goal campaign with Pittsburgh in 2022-23. Zucker has 370 points (196+174) in 697 career regular-season games and 18 points (9+9) in 52 playoff games.

Gilbert, 27, played a career-high 34 games for Calgary this past season and had seven points (1+6). He has 12 fights in 82 career NHL games.

Bryson, 26, has played 206 career games for the Sabres, posting 36 points (4+32) in his four seasons. In 76 appearances in Rochester, he has tallied four goals, 29 assists, and a plus-10 rating.

The Sabres are expected to make more moves, but likely via trade.
