The New York Mets (41-41) got back in the win column on Monday night with a 9-7 extra-inning victory over the Washington Nationals (39-45).

Tyrone Taylor misplayed a ball in right field that allowed the Nationals to tie the game in the eighth inning, but the Mets put up a six spot in the tenth and held on to snap their two-game skid.

J.D. Martinez blasted a go-ahead three-run homer to start the big inning. Francisco Alvarez followed with a run-scoring triple before Jose Iglesias capped the scoring with a two-run shot.

Alvarez had a go-head two-run double earlier in the game after Mark Vientos put the Mets on the board with an RBI single.

David Peterson surrendered two runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings.

The Mets will try to take the first two games of this four-game series on Tuesday when they hand the ball to Sean Manaea. The first pitch is set for 6:45 p.m.
