Jessica L. Morrison from Wellsville has been sentenced to eight years in prison for setting a fire that destroyed an apartment building on North Broad Street in May 2023. Allegany County Court Judge Thomas Brown also ordered five years of post-release supervision during the Thursday sentencing.

Morrison, 32, pleaded guilty to second-degree arson on April 24, 2024. She was initially charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree criminal mischief. The fire, which began in a second-floor stairwell, took over two hours to control, but no injuries were reported among the building’s residents or pets.

The apartment house at 46 N. Broad St. was a total loss and has been demolished. The case was prosecuted by Allegany County District Attorney Ian M. Jones, and Morrison was represented by Jennifer Galvan.
