Tyrone Taylor, Pete Alonso, and Jeff McNeil went deep as the New York Mets picked up a 7-2 series-opening victory over the Houston Astros on Friday night at Citi Field to improve to 40-39.

Taylor tied the game in the fourth with a solo shot, then Alonso gave the Mets the lead in the sixth with a solo homer before McNeil extended it later in the inning with a three-run blast.

Francisco Alvarez opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly, and Francisco Lindor added an RBI double in the ninth.

Jose Quintana tossed four innings of two-run ball while walking three and striking out seven. Adam Ottavino, Dedniel Núñez, Jake Diekman, and Reed Garrett combined for five scoreless.

Box Score

The Mets will try to make it five straight wins on Saturday at 4:10 p.m. with Tylor Megill on the hill.
