Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a free fishing weekend in New York State on June 29-30. During this time, residents and visitors can fish in New York’s freshwater lakes, ponds, streams, and rivers without a fishing license.

Governor Hochul encourages everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to experience freshwater fishing. “New York offers numerous spots for memorable fishing experiences,” she said. The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) provides resources for beginners, including a fishing rod lending program at libraries and an online guide to fishing.

Participants should note that while the fishing license requirement is waived, all other fishing regulations still apply. For more information and resources, visit the DEC website.
