Traveler Stopped with Loaded Handgun at Rochester Airport

A traveler was stopped at the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport on Tuesday when TSA officers allegedly found a gun in his carry-on bag.

The TSA reported that a loaded .45 caliber handgun was detected as the bag passed through the X-ray machine at a security checkpoint. The gun was confiscated, and the man faces a fine of up to $15,000. This is the third gun found at the airport this year.

“It’s disappointing that a licensed New York State pistol permit holder arrived with a loaded gun, creating a dangerous situation,” said Bart R. Johnson, TSA’s Federal Security Director for Upstate New York. Firearms must be unloaded, locked in a hard case, and declared at check-in to be transported on airplanes.
