The following is a letter to the editor submitted by Pastor Valerie White of the Seneca Falls United Methodist Church, Reconciling Ministries/Social Justice Committee. If you have a letter you’d like to share for publication, please send it to [email protected].

On June 21 our Intersectional Pride flag was vandalized and destroyed. We are saddened by this act but remain committed to the belief, “All are welcome” in our church.

We support the following statement by the Rev. Leah Ntuala, Pastor at the First Presbyterian Church of Seneca Falls:

“If flags of hate are allowed to stand without fear of being removed (because of the First Amendment) then a flag affirming love should be able to wave proudly without fear of being torn and destroyed. This is why Pride matters.”
