UnitedHealthcare to Pay $1M for Birth Control Coverage Failures

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

UnitedHealthcare will pay New York $1 million for not covering birth control as required by state law, Attorney General Letitia James announced.

The settlement comes after violations of the Comprehensive Contraceptive Coverage Act, which requires health plans to cover contraceptives without copays or delays. Affected consumers will be refunded out-of-pocket costs plus 12% interest.

Consumers eligible for refunds will be notified by UnitedHealthcare. Those who paid for contraceptives and believe they should have been covered can submit a claim via email at [email protected].
