  • Staff Report

AAA projects 70.9 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home during the extended July 4th week, setting a new record.

With the flexibility of remote work, more people are taking longer trips around Independence Day. This year’s travel is up 5% from 2023 and 8% from 2019.

Most will travel by car, with 60.6 million hitting the road. Gas prices are expected to be lower than last year’s $3.53 average. Air travel is also at a record high, with 5.74 million people flying, and more than 4.6 million will use buses, cruises, and trains. Travelers should avoid peak driving times and expect heavy traffic in large metro areas.
