Major Boating Rule Change Coming to Keuka Lake?

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

A proposed new law in the Town of Jerusalem will change how people enjoy the sandbar in Branchport on Keuka Lake. A public hearing is set for July 17 at 7 p.m.

The amended law, now called the “Vessel Anchoring and Rafting Law,” restricts anchoring and rafting of boats near Crescent Beach. Boats cannot anchor between the shore and the channel marker buoys or within 500 feet of the shore, except in emergencies or for fishing, and they must stay at least 50 feet from other vessels.

These changes aim to improve safety and manage boating activities more effectively. However, dozens of residents had taken to social media to voice frustration over the proposed change.

Residents are encouraged to attend the hearing to share their views.
