Algal Bloom Advisory Issued for Conesus Lake

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

The Livingston County Department of Health has issued a Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) advisory for Conesus Lake. HABs have been spotted near Vitale Park and in shallow waters along the break wall.

People and animals should avoid areas with visible blooms. The public water supply remains safe for drinking. HABs can make water appear green and form thick scums, potentially producing toxins harmful to humans and animals. Exposure can cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, skin, eye, or throat irritation, and allergic reactions or breathing issues.

Residents are advised not to swim, wade, boat, or fish near suspected HABs, avoid eating fish from these areas, and refrain from using untreated lake water. Rinse with clean water if exposed. Children and pets are especially vulnerable.

Report symptoms to your doctor and contact the Department of Health at 585-243-7280 or email [email protected] for more information or to report a bloom.
