Mets cruise past Cubs in series opener

The New York Mets continued their road trip on Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field and cruised past the Chicago Cubs, 11-1, in the series opener.

New York’s offensive outburst was led by J.D. Martinez and Jose Iglesias, who combined to go 6-for-9 with seven RBI.

Martinez opened the game with a bang, crushing a three-run homer to straightaway center before adding a run-scoring single. Iglesias had an RBI single and a two-run single.

Francisco Alvarez and Brandon Nimmo also went deep, while Starling Marte chipped in a run-scoring groundout.

Jose Quintana allowed an unearned run over 6.1 innings while striking out eight. Adam Ottavino and Drew Smith combined for 2.2 scoreless.
