New York added 15,800 private sector jobs in May 2024, boosting the total to 8,376,200, according to the state’s Department of Labor.
The state’s unemployment rate remained steady at 4.2%. The labor force participation rate also held at 61.3%, with a slight decrease of 7,800 in the labor force.
Nationally, private sector jobs also rose by 0.2% in May. Over the past year, New York’s private sector jobs increased by 126,000, or 1.5%, slightly below the U.S. increase of 1.6%.
