Car dealerships across the U.S. faced major disruptions on Wednesday due to a cyberattack on their software provider, CDK Global. The incident caused a widespread computer system outage, impacting numerous auto dealers.

CDK Global reported that it has restored its core systems, including Dealer Management Systems (DMS) and Digital Retailing solutions. The company is conducting extensive tests to bring other applications back online. “Our first priority is always the security of our customers,” said CDK spokesperson Lisa Finney.

While it’s unclear how many dealerships were affected, CDK Global serves over 15,000 retail locations in North America. The company is working with third-party experts to investigate the incident. In a 2023 report, CDK noted that cyberattacks on auto retailers are increasing, with 17% of surveyed dealerships experiencing such attacks last year.
