Schumer Pushes to Restore Roe v. Wade Amid Reproductive Rights Campaign

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., is setting up a vote on a bill to restore Roe v. Wade as Democrats launch a new push on reproductive rights. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra is also starting a tour to highlight the issue ahead of the two-year anniversary of the Supreme Court decision that overturned the constitutional right to abortion.

Schumer announced the procedural steps for the Reproductive Freedom for Women Act, which would affirm a woman’s right to choose. The move aims to put Republicans on record regarding reproductive rights, a key issue for Democrats as the 2024 election approaches.

Recently, Republicans blocked two bills related to reproductive healthcare, one on contraception and another on in-vitro fertilization. Becerra’s tour will visit six states, focusing on abortion care, IVF, and contraception, joined by medical professionals and elected officials to emphasize support for reproductive rights.
