Officials in Wayne and Seneca counties are urging residents to prepare for extreme heat this week, with temperatures expected to reach the highest levels in 30 years.

Anthony Verno, Chairman of the Wayne County Board of Supervisors, advised residents to stay hydrated, stay indoors, and check on relatives and neighbors. A Heat Advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday, with Tuesday through Thursday posing significant heat risks.

Seneca County’s Office of Emergency Management also reminded residents to be cautious. “Stay hydrated, wear loose clothing, and avoid outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day,” said Emergency Manager George Bastedo. Cooling centers have been set up in both counties.
