Girl Scouts wrap up cookie season, urge donations to local food banks

  • Staff Report

The Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways (GSNYPENN) have finished their annual cookie sale, selling 1,433,262 packages from January to April. They donated 21,434 packages to local food banks, including the Food Bank of Central New York and the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.

Girl Scouts use their cookie sales earnings for activities like community service projects, summer camp, and earning badges. They also learn about financial literacy and entrepreneurship. This year’s cookie donations through the Sweet Support Gift of Caring project dropped by 12.5 percent.

GSNYPENN is asking the community to donate $6 to give a package of cookies to local food banks by June 30. Donations can be made at gsnypenn.org/sweetdonation.

“Supporting the Sweet Support Gift of Caring project helps local families,” said GSNYPENN CEO Julie Dale. “A $6 donation can bring a smile to someone in need.”
