Waterloo man who lied about car crash with sister arrested third time in two months

Police say a local man who’s been arrested multiple times in the last several months was taken into custody again after a new incident.

Matthew R. Garneau, 23, was arrested on June 14 for criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to the Waterloo Police Department.

Garneau was detained on a New York State Police warrant when officers found him with a substance suspected to be crack cocaine. He received an appearance ticket and is set to appear in the Town of Waterloo Court on July 17 at 5 p.m.

He was previously arrested at the end of May on a bench warrant and was found to be in possession of drugs during that incident as well. Earlier in the spring he was arrested with his sister for fleeing a car accident and acting with her to cover up the driver.

The Waterloo Police Department was assisted by the New York State Police and the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.
