Residents in the town of Mentz are voicing strong opposition to a proposed solid waste transfer station on Route 31, less than a mile from Port Byron and its high school.

Morgan Rubbish Removal plans to build the station on an 82-acre property. Owner Steve Morgan said the central location is ideal, but many residents, including Polly Davies, fear it will harm the area’s environment and aesthetics.

The Mentz Planning Board will discuss the proposal at its meeting on Wednesday, June 19, at 7 p.m. The plan also needs approval from the New York Department of Environmental Conservation and the Department of Transportation.
