An East Bloomfield ambulance crashed into a utility pole on State Route 5 and 20 Saturday night, causing traffic disruptions and sending one person to the hospital.

Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies reported that the ambulance, driven by 67-year-old William C. Smith, went off the road due to sun glare and struck the pole. The passenger, 65-year-old Gina Zaino-Brown, was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with a neck injury.

There were no patients in the ambulance at the time. Route 5 and 20 was closed between Route 444 and Hillcrest Drive while RG&E crews repaired the pole.
