New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced Wednesday that the reigning American League Cy Young winner, Gerrit Cole, will make his third rehab start with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in Rochester on Friday night against the Red Wings.

Cole has yet to pitch for the Yankees this season after he was shut down from throwing in mid-March and diagnosed with elbow nerve inflammation and edema.

Boone said the Yankees will wait and see how this outing goes before deciding to activate him from the injured list.

The right-hander made his first two rehab starts with Double-A Somerset last week, allowing one run over eight innings while striking out nine.

The first pitch for Friday’s game is slated for 6:35 p.m.
