Tick season has arrived: How to protect yourself this summer

  • Staff Report

Steuben County Public Health is urging residents to be cautious as tick season begins. While not all ticks carry diseases, avoiding those that do is crucial.

To help, Steuben County provides free tick removal kits at the Public Health office on East Pulteney Square in Bath.

To prevent tick bites, use insect repellent with 30% DEET, wear protective clothing, and avoid wooded or brushy areas. If you find a tick on your skin, remove it with tweezers and clean the area with alcohol or soap and water. If a rash or fever develops after a bite, see a doctor promptly.
