State Senator Tom O’Mara visited Waverly High School on Monday to honor the Waverly High School Football team for their historic win in the NYSPHSAA Class C state championship last December.

At the school’s All Sports Banquet, O’Mara presented a Legislative Resolution (J1735) recognizing the team’s victory on December 2, 2023, at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse. The Waverly Wolverines defeated top-ranked Fonda-Fultonville, 46-26, securing their first state championship in football.

“The Waverly school district has a proud history of athletic excellence,” O’Mara said. “This championship is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and success of these student-athletes and their coaches. It brings immense pride to the Waverly community and our region.”

Head Coach Jason Miller expressed his gratitude, saying, “This championship rewards the team’s commitment and hard work. We earned it, and we’re thankful for the community’s incredible support.”

The resolution celebrated Coach Miller, his assistants, and all team members for their remarkable 13-1 season.
