A new nature preserve above Cayuga Lake is now open to the public in Lansing. The Sims-Jenning Preserve at Cayuga Cliffs covers 223 acres and features bluffs, meadows, woodlands, and gorges, according to the Finger Lakes Land Trust (FLLT).

Visitors can enjoy nearly two miles of trails for hiking and, in winter, cross-country skiing. The preserve is open during daylight hours for quiet nature observation and low-impact recreation.

The FLLT acquired the land in two purchases: 200 acres from William and Jean Sims in 2021 and an adjacent 23-acre parcel from John Thompson’s family in 2023. Both families sold their land for less than market value to help create the preserve.
