Monkey Run Natural Area reopens after rabid coyote incident

The Monkey Run Natural Area has reopened a week after being closed due to sightings of a potentially rabid coyote.

The closure came after reports from the Tompkins County Whole Health’s Environmental Health Division of multiple coyote attacks on people and dogs in the area. The coyote had approached a person walking a dog last Monday evening, prompting the initial concern.

The Monkey Run Natural Area, managed by the Cornell Botanic Gardens, stretches from Hanshaw Road to Route 366 east of Ithaca and the Cornell campus. The area is now safe for public use again.
