Congresswoman Claudia Tenney’s resolution calling for the immediate release of Ryan Corbett, a U.S. citizen detained by the Taliban, passed the House of Representatives. The resolution, H. Res. 965, had 72 cosponsors and passed unanimously.

Ryan Corbett, a Western New Yorker, has been held by the Taliban since August 10, 2022, without charges. He has been confined in poor conditions, leading to severe health deterioration. Congresswoman Tenney has been advocating for his release and worked to get him designated as a wrongful detainee by the U.S. State Department.

“Ryan has been held in terrible conditions for over 600 days. This resolution shows our commitment to bringing him home,” said Tenney. Ryan’s wife, Anna Corbett, expressed gratitude for the resolution’s overwhelming support and urged President Biden to act on it.
