A 72-year-old man from Canandaigua was arrested for menacing police officers after pointing a shotgun at deputies who were checking on his welfare.

Deputies from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office visited Alan C. Scrivener’s home on Stoddard Road after a concerned acquaintance requested a welfare check. When deputies arrived, Scrivener pointed a shotgun at them and ignored commands to drop the weapon. Deputies left and returned on June 11 with a search warrant.

After a five-hour standoff with the Ontario County SWAT team, Scrivener was found hiding in a second-story bedroom. He was arrested and charged with Menacing a Police or Peace Officer, a Class D Felony, and released on his own recognizance to appear in Hopewell Town Court later.
