Penn Yan senior makes history, qualifying for nationals in steeplechase

Penn Yan senior JD Tette has made history as the first Mustang athlete to qualify for a national competition.

Tette placed third in the Steeplechase at the New York State Division Two Track and Field State Championship held in Cicero-North Syracuse on Saturday.

This achievement qualifies him for the New Balance Nationals in Philadelphia next weekend.

Tette, a 15-time Section Five champion, also became the first Mustang to win a state championship in cross country last November. He’s headed to SUNY Geneseo in the fall.
