The Auburn Enlarged City School District has selected Dr. Misty Slavic as its new superintendent, according to a news release on Tuesday. Dr. Slavic will succeed Jeff Pirozzolo, who announced his retirement in January after nearly 20 years with the district.

The district received nearly 20 applications for the position, which were narrowed down to five semifinalists. Last month, the Board of Education announced Dr. Misty Slavic and Dr. Tanya Wilson-Thevanesan as the two finalists. Both candidates spent a day in the district for their final interviews.

Dr. Slavic holds a doctorate in education and educational leadership from the University of Pittsburgh. She has experience as a superintendent for curriculum and instruction and as a director of special education. She is expected to be formally appointed at a special school board meeting.
