Tompkins County inmate dies after suspected overdose inside facility

A Tompkins County Jail inmate was taken to Cayuga Medical Center (CMC) on the night of May 29 after experiencing cardiac arrest due to a suspected drug overdose.

Despite receiving life-saving measures, including two doses of Naloxone, the man later died after being released from custody.

Jail staff and paramedics provided immediate care before the inmate was transported by Bangs Ambulance.

Paramedics noted the man had a history of heroin abuse. His identity has not been disclosed, but officials have said he was in his 40s.
