Mets win first series in nearly a month

The New York York Mets (26-35) secured their first series win since May 7 with a 6-3 victory over the Washington Nationals (27-33) on Tuesday night.

New York jumped out to a 5-0 lead and received a strong pitching performance from David Peterson, who surrendered two runs over 6.2 innings, as they rolled to a second straight win over the Nationals.

Harrison Bader and Pete Alonso homered, Starling Marte had an RBI triple, and Mark Vientos added a sacrifice fly.

Dedniel Núñez and Reed Garrett combined to get the final seven outs of the contest.

The Mets will go for the three-game sweep on Wednesday at 4:05 p.m. with Luis Severino on the hill.
