Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer visited Geneseo to announce a $1.5 million federal grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for Livingston County. The funding will help assess and plan the cleanup of brownfield sites in Caledonia, Livonia, Leicester, Dansville, and Geneseo.

The grant will allow Livingston County to conduct environmental assessments and develop cleanup plans for abandoned or polluted sites. Schumer emphasized the importance of transforming these areas to spur economic growth and revitalize local communities. “Today marks a turning point, turning brownfield sites into something useful for the community,” Schumer said.

Livingston County will use the grant to perform 24 Phase I and 14 Phase II environmental site assessments, determining contamination levels and planning for cleanup. County officials believe this will attract investors and boost local development, ultimately improving the quality of life for residents.
