A group of hikers was rescued from the Watkins Glen State Park Gorge Trail after a landslide on Saturday night. Emergency services responded to the call at 8:12 p.m. on May 25, reporting that several hikers were trapped near Medical Marker 13.

Rescue teams from multiple departments, including Watkins Glen Fire Department and New York State Park Police, worked together to locate and free the hikers.

Utilizing the geocode system “What3words,” crews reached the stranded hikers from both the east and west sides of the trail. All hikers were safely brought to Lily Pond for medical evaluation, and no injuries were reported among the hikers or rescuers.

Following the successful rescue, the Gorge Trail was temporarily closed for safety checks. Officials later confirmed the trail was cleared and would reopen to the public on the holiday.
