The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) Division of Law Enforcement took action against illegal dumping in Steuben County on April 12. ECO McNamara responded to a tip from a State Trooper about household garbage dumped on a back road in Lindley.

Officer McNamara sifted through the garbage and identified information leading to multiple suspects. After conducting several interviews, one individual admitted to the illegal dumping and was issued a ticket for unlawful disposal of solid waste, returnable to the Town of Lindley Court.

In 2023, the DEC’s Division of Law Enforcement, which protects New York’s natural resources, fielded over 101,500 calls and addressed more than 30,932 complaints. Their efforts led to nearly 16,900 tickets or arrests for violations including deer poaching, illegal mining, and excessive emissions.
